Allium ampeloprasum var. ampeloprasum, Perennial Leek, is a springtime leek and an autumn elephant garlic. If left in the ground it will return year after year. I have left mine in the ground for 6 years (completely neglected) and now there is a huge leek/garlic clump in the ground.
What more can you ask for than a vegetable that you can use in some form at any time that the ground is workable.
