Grafted Persimmons $45

Grafted Persimmons

Improved grafted persimmons are grafted on the American persimmon root stock, but the top (known as SCION) could be either improved American variety or improved Asian variety. We use American Persimmon rootstock because it is native and perfectly suited to handle our environment. We use improved tops, SCION wood, for larger and tastier fruit.

Please check out the description below for each variety that we offer.

Early Jewell has seedless 2.5 to 2.75-inch reddish orange fruit that ripens in the early fall. While some persimmons only bear heavily every other year, this tree is a consistent producer every year. It is hardy to USDA hardiness zones 5-9 and grows to 20-40’.

H-55A is an American persimmon that has large 2 to 3 inch orangish yellow fruit that is firm and sweet.  The fruit ripens in mid-fall and is a seedless variety.  This tree takes to pruning well in order to keep it at a shorter height of 10-12’ vs the 20+’ unpruned.

Hana Fuyu Persimmon Trees produces fist sized orange, sweet and tasty fruit averaging in size from 3.75 to 4 inches.  It is an Asian variety persimmon tree. It has a non-astringent taste and is great to just take a bite out of as though you were eating an apple fresh off the tree.  It ripens in early fall and is hardy in USDA hardiness zones 6-9. It is considered somewhat dwarfing and does not need another persimmon tree around to produce fruit.  It grows 8 to 15’ tall.

Korean Kaki persimmon is an east Asian variety that is the most widely cultivated persimmon species globally.  When ripe the fruit is a yellowish orange color and is sweet yet slightly tangy and measures 3 to 4 inches.  Similar to American persimmons the unripe fruit is astringent. Grows 15-20’ tall.

Korp Persimmon is an improved American variety from the same breeding program as Prok (Prok backwards = Korp).  It is much shorter than traditional American persimmons and produces 2” diameter orangish yellow fruit.  The fruit falls from the tree when ripe and has a very mild or bland flavor compared to other American varieties.  The largest advantage of this tree is that it is not huge like most American varieties. Grows 30-50’ tall.

Russian Beauty, also known as Rosseyanka, is a hybrid cross between Asian Kaki and an American persimmon.  The smooth custard-like fruit is larger than American persimmons averaging 2 to 3 inches in diameter. If not pruned it reaches for the sky with a top height of up to 75’. It has a very sweet fruit with some reporting it to be almost date-like with sweetness.

Shoto persimmon is an improved American persimmon cultivar known for heavy production but smaller tree size.  Grows to 15-25’ tall.

Valeene Beauty persimmon is an improved American persimmon variety known for non-astringent fruit of 2.25 to 2.5 inches in diameter that ripens in mid to late fall.  It is a vigorous grower but can be maintained at 15 – 25’ with pruning.  Valeene Beauty persimmon originates from Indiana and is the result of a cross between ‘Mitchellena’ x ‘Early Golden.’  Grows 35 to 60’ tall.
