Peppermint Mentha x piperita is a strongly aromatic herbaceous perennial herb in the mint family that is used as a flavoring, essential oil, insect repellent, and rodent repellent.
Peppermint is used as a tea and in various herbal tea mixes. It is also used as a flavor candy, alcohol flavoring, and chewing gum. It can really add a unique pizazz when you add a small amount to a salad. You may also find it in shampoo, toothpaste, and soaps. Peppermint is high in menthol content.
This spreading perennial hails from Europe and the Middle East. It grows up to 2 foot tall and is an aggressive spreader.
According to Wikipedia, Peppermint oil has a high concentration of natural pesticides, mainly pulegone and menthone. It is known to repel some pest insects, including mosquitos, has uses in organic gardening and is also widely used to repel rodents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peppermint
Peppermint is actually a natural cross between two types of mint (water mint and spearmint).
